Dallas Scholarships/Student Practicum Program
II-VI Marlow offers a practicum for Dallas-area high school students. In the practicum program, students receive a paid internship, professional mentorship and $500 scholarship.
Students will also satisfy the work requirement to apply for the II-VI Foundation Scholarship, an award of up to $ 5,000 per year for eligible freshmen applicants and upper class candidates are eligible for up to a $10,000 scholarship.
The Foundation is open to students of diverse background who plan to enter the fields of science, engineering, and mathematics at the undergraduate level. Students must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA (un-weighted for high school students) through college and complete 9 weeks or 360 hours of relevant work experience in an industrial setting. The maximum award for this scholarship is limited to four years and totals $35,000.
In coordination with school counselors, the practicum students prepare résumés and interview for available job openings. The selected students will work full-time during the summer of their junior year and part-time during their senior year under the supervision of a professional mentor.
With the practicum/scholarship program, II-VI Marlow seeks to proactively develop the next generation of science and engineering personnel while receiving meaningful work from practicum students. Unique advantages for the practicum student also include professional guidance, career direction and relevant work experience to build their résumés.
