Marlow Chief Engineer Speaking at SPIE Defense & Security 2012

Jim Bierschenk, Chief Engineer Product & Process R&D will cover advancements in thermoelectric power generation technology at the upcoming SPIE Defense & Security exhibition, Tues April 24th 2012.


Thermoelectric energy harvesting can provide a wide range of electrical power from micro- to-milliWatt power levels that are ideal for micro-devices and sensor networks from hundreds of watts to kilowatts of power in automotive and industrial settings.  In this presentation, Bierschenk will cover the latest developments in bulk Bi2Te3 device and system technology for thermoelectric power generation including Marlow's new line of EverGenTM micro energy harvesters.


Bierschenk will also cover recent developments in high-temp thermoelectric devices that deliver extensive power output from wider temperature differences. Breaking away from the traditional thermoelectric materials focused presentations; Bierschenk will discuss Marlow’s progress on the translation of these materials into robust, manufacturable devices that can be utilized in a variety of applications.  Bierschenk will review Marlow’s advancements in creating high temperature bulk skutterudite materials and devices, providing supplemental test data and applications.


Jim Bierschenk has more than 25 years of experience designing thermoelectric cooling and power generation modules and systems. His design and management experience encompasses all markets served by Marlow, including industrial, telecom, defense, space, medical and consumer. He has extensive experience in qualifying new thermoelectric materials, devices and processes and transitioning them from R&D to production. He is also the recipient of seven U.S. patents related to thermoelectric devices and systems with several other patents pending.
